As a SOLIDWORKS user, you may be wondering what you would use DraftSight for? With DraftSight you can directly prepare DXF files for a laser cutter, help manage legacy drawings in DWG format, and share licenses over a network for the occasional user to keep your software cost low.

What is DraftSight?

DraftSight is a 2D and 3D CAD program that has a similar user-friendly interface to other 2D CAD systems on the market which means you will be creating, editing, viewing, and marking up DWGs in no time, getting things out, manufactured, and to the customer as quickly and effectively as possible.

What Is the Cost of DraftSight and How Is It Licensed?

DraftSight is a fraction of the cost compared to AutoCAD, is integrated into SOLIDWORKS and PDM to help with document management and offers a lot of different packages to fit your needs. Whether a hobbyist, student, or a larger corporation, DraftSight has a package for you.

DraftSight is most commonly sold as a term license, but perpetual licenses of DraftSight Enterprise are available.

Are There Different DraftSight Packages?

DraftSight Professional comes with essential 2D tools which allow you to Draw, Modify, use Block, Hatching, Layers, Draw Compare, and PDF convert and Underlay. It also includes some great additional features such as Toolbox, Batch Printing, Automatic Dimensioning, Image Tracer, and G-code generator.

Premium has all the great functionality of Professional with the addition of 3D capabilities.

DraftSight Enterprise and Enterprise Plus are two packages aimed at large organizations. They both offer network licenses that allow you to have DraftSight installed on as many computers as you would like on your network as well as Deployment Wizard. Enterprise Plus has 3D capabilities along with 2D constraints.

If you are part of a design team that uses 2D CAD occasionally, the network license functionality can be a huge cost saver. Network licensing is no longer available from several other vendors, but it allows a group of users to share licenses on an as-needed basis.
