Be Certain in Uncertain Times: Gain Clarity and Maintain a Competitive Edge

Table of Contents

Uncertainty in business today is a fact of life. Should we zig or should we zag? Should watch and wait, or invest and get ahead? These are complicated questions, and we won’t be so bold to suggest that we have all the answers. What we can offer, though, is clarity. Hawk Ridge Systems has a proven process to help our clients gain clarity, especially during times of uncertainty. This process really begins with three key elements.

1 | Get an Objective Viewpoint

One key step in gaining clarity is to get an objective viewpoint. It’s challenging to work IN the business and ON the business, at the same time. These are two very different exercises. The easiest way to do this is to engage with someone from outside of your company, someone who hasn’t been part of building the current systems and processes. These folks won’t have any emotion around the “blood, sweat and tears” that were put into the existing system, and they won’t bring the same preconceived notions about what will and won’t work that someone from within the company would.

2 | Identify Inefficiencies

Another key to gaining clarity during times of uncertainty is to consistently identify the things that are slowing you down (systems, processes, habits, etc.) and latch onto them with tenacity. This is a primary step in a continuous improvement cycle. Be CERTAIN that these are the issues that when solved or improved will result in better outcomes.

3| Create a Plan

The next steps, once you identify those inefficiencies, are to architect a solution that you are confident will work, and then have the conviction to see the plan through.

Easier said than done, especially in times of uncertainty.
