When it comes to training at Hawk Ridge Systems, I have a unique perspective because I am an employee and a former training customer. I have given a lot of training, and I have received a lot of training.
As a SOLIDWORKS user, you get to build up your skills and improve your knowledge. And you become a better designer!
It doesnāt stop there. When a group of designers and engineers take the same training together, that shared knowledge, tips and tricks, and support from each other help create a better team.
I have seen this as a student and an instructor.
While self-paced and live classrooms are great methods to learn SOLIDWORKS, the best learning style for you and your company might be private training.
What Makes Private Training Different
Self-paced and live classrooms are among the most popular choices for SOLIDWORKS training. At its core, hereās what they offer:
- Self-Paced, Online Training: Platforms like SolidProfessor are truly excellent at providing learning materials and empowering the student. This can be super helpful and a great resource! Get what you need when you need it.
- Live Classrooms (in person or live online): The grand old standard! Who hasnāt loved to learn this way? You have an instructor at the front of the room going over the class material and a room full of people from different companies. Itās a great experience to get different ideas from different perspectives and see how other people do the same tasks differently. But at the same time, it can also be a challenge to learn what you want, and you may need to compromise, as not all the sections may apply to you and your companyās goals.
With private training, you can fill the class with just your people! You can direct the course content to cover your needs.
Course examples can be drawn from your real-world work environment. There is no compromising with other materials in the course content. You get exactly the course you and your company want and need!
Letās dig into the top six reasons why you should book private training sessions for your team.
1. On-Site Private Training
Going on site and meeting the team is one of my great privileges of working at Hawk Ridge Systems. I get to learn more about you, your processes, your products, and your challenges.
All of these can shape how your course content is presented. Areas of specific concern can be addressed in a dedicated time with the right people. The team can learn together and help each other long after the course is over.
Having the course at your site ensures your information and your people remain secure. For organizations where security is critical, on-site training remains the gold standard. Itās secure, itās practical, and it makes the learning experience that much stronger. This can be especially important for government and defense teams!
Plus, you save on travel time and cost. For projects with tight timelines, having this flexibility makes a real difference.
2. Flexible Delivery for Every Team
Private training can be live online, in the classroom, or in person at your site. It’s your choice! And you get to pick the day(s) and time of the training!
At Hawk Ridge Systems, we can also do a half-day training session to accommodate busy schedules and reduce disruption to your business. We can start part of a group early in training and include the advanced group when the first group has caught up in the material.
Private training provides the flexibility needed to get your group trained to a desired level.
3. Covering a Range of Design-to-Manufacturing Software
While the SOLIDWORKS Essentials course is the most common request, private training goes well beyond that. Private training classes can cover:
- CAMWorks courses for machinists learning 2.5-axis mill and 3-axis mill strategies.
- DriveWorks Essentials and Advanced sessions for companies automating repetitive tasks.
- Even advanced training on tools like SIMULIA Abaqus, which donāt have a regularly scheduled course
That flexibility is another big advantage. While the online Hawk Ridge Systems training catalog is expansive, private training can go even further!
4. A Simple, Straightforward Training Model
One of the things I like most about our current private training model is how simple it is. Estimating the cost to train your engineering team can sometimes get confusing, especially if you have a large number of engineers taking different courses at different times.
Private training offers a simpler approach: $3,800 per day (plus travel fees). The number of recommended training days can vary by product.
SOLIDWORKS Essentials is usually four days. A CAMWorks course can be two or three. But the pricing is predictable and easy to explain. If itās on-site, there are standard travel and laptop fees, just like any other service.
That clarity makes it easier for customers to plan and budget. And from my perspective, it keeps the focus on what matters: the training experience itself.
5. Depth & Relevance, Not Shortcuts
Private training isnāt about rushing through material or condensing a four-day class into two days. It is about using the time on lessons that matter the most to the team.
It means more mentoring, longer labs, and more chances to connect the software to the teamās actual projects, so you can walk away with valuable techniques and methods. Itās about depth and relevance, not shortcuts.
6. Achieving Great Things Together
Training changes lives. Training advances teams and companies. I would not be where I am today without the training that I have received. Over the years, I have seen students starting a class with feelings of uncertainty and dread. Only to see all that go away days later. Uncertainty replaced with confidence. Dread replaced with excitement!
Instead of mapping out the training for individuals, managers can map out the training for the entire team! Train everyone together, save time, money, and headaches.
Private training can ensure that when a software investment is made, the people using it know how to get the most out of it and feel good about it.
Final Thoughts
For me as an instructor, private training is where I see the biggest impact. Itās structured enough to guarantee results, but flexible enough to feel personal. Itās the fastest way to get a team productive on SOLIDWORKS, CAMWorks, or 3DEXPERIENCE data management.
For government and defense teams, itās the only way to do it securely.
Every time I wrap up a private class, I leave knowing the team is better prepared, more confident, and ready to take on their projects. That is why I believe private training isnāt just another service. For many organizations, itās the key to engineering excellence.
