Frequently Asked Questions
While the Space Spider does not have a hard size limit, it is generally considered most efficient for objects smaller than 2 feet, owing to its relatively small field of view. That said, computer power is the only true limit and there have been notable exceptions to the typical size range, like a complete 26-foot-long stegosaurus skeleton scanned exclusively with the Space Spider. For more efficient (but less detailed) scanning of larger objects, consider a handheld with a larger field of view like Leo or EVA, or using one of them in combination with the Space Spider.
Yes. Artec Studio allows you to seamlessly combine data from any blend of Artec scanners.
Space Spider uses blue structured light.
Yes. While the main draw of the Space Spider is its ability to scan without targets, it is compatible with various 3rd party photogrammetry kits which allow it to be used with targets for greatly enhanced dimensional accuracy over long distances. Photogrammetry kits also allow you to scan isolated patches of scan data while retaining accurate relative positions between scanned areas.
Artec scanners do not require an especially high-performance computer, though investing more in certain components – like the GPU – can result in greatly reduced processing times.
