Advanced Cloud-Based Simulation

3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA uses the proven Abaqus solver to help you tackle complex structural simulations efficiently.

These analysis tools are part of the 3DEXPERIENCE cloud platform, allowing simulations to run in the cloud. You’ll have access to more processing cores for faster results, while freeing up your local hardware for other design or simulation work.

3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA is packaged by roles. See below for the most common role bundles. Contact us to learn about the full portfolio of roles.

Accelerate Product Development: InFocus Energy Services

For InFocus Energy Services, product validation is everything due to the unpredictable environments of downhole drilling. The company designs drilling and completion tools for the oil and gas industry, and the team knew they needed a solution to reduce the cost of expensive physical prototyping. Turning to advanced simulation on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the team saved tens of thousands of dollars and months of time and labor costs — among many other significant business savings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use cloud computing to solve my simulations on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform?

You choose which hardware is used. Cloud solving is a key benefit of SIMULIA on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and allows you to perform complex analysis without the need to own expensive computer hardware. However, you can use your own computer to solve simulations locally if you prefer.

Where is my data saved using 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA?

Simulation models and results are securely stored on your private cloud tenant.

Do these cloud-solving simulation tools integrate with SOLIDWORKS?

Yes. You’ll upload your SOLIDWORKS models to the cloud to set up and solve your simulations. The cloud copy is linked to your local file, so you can easily update your simulation with any changes to your SOLIDWORKS model, enabling rapid iteration.

What is the difference between implicit and explicit solving?

These are two different methods for solving FEA problems. Implicit solving is ideal for solving static and low-speed dynamic events, such as sealing pressure in a gasket joint or crack propagation in a composite airplane fuselage. Explicit solving, available in the Simulation Analyst and Simulation Multiphysics packages, is well-suited for high-speed dynamic events, such as consumer electronics drop testing, automotive crashes, and ballistic impact.

What is general contact?

It can be challenging and tedious to predict and define all the possible contacting surfaces in a simulation. The Abaqus solver can use “general contact” to automatically detect contact between different bodies, dramatically reducing missed contact definitions and the time required to define contact in complex assemblies.

Which 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA role(s) do I need?

3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA is flexible with roles for different sets of capabilities: Structural Designer, Structural Engineer, Structural Performance Engineer, Structural Mechanics Engineer, Durability Performance Engineer, Durability and Mechanics Engineer and Fluid Dynamics Engineer. The packages shown in the matrix above are the most common configurations, and we recommend exploring the feature list to determine what level is right for you.

Are the 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA tools the same as SIMULIA Abaqus?

The 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA structural analysis tools use the same proven solver technology as the desktop version of Abaqus, but feature a modern user interface and new workflows designed specifically for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

What is a role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform?

The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is sold in modules called roles. Each role is for a specific task and a role can contain multiple applications. Every role on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is tied to a specific user. Everyone connecting to the platform will need to be assigned their unique set of roles.

What other roles are required to use 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA?

There are two roles required to be connected to and to run additional programs on 3DEXPERIENCE. The packages shown in the matrix above include these foundation roles, 3DSwymer and Collaborative Industry Innovator, which give you the ability to connect from any browser to view 3D content and manage cloud data. The packages above also include Simulation Collaborator, for sharing and reviewing simulation results which expands cloud storage to 100GB, and Learning Experience for 3DEXPEREINCE WORKS, which provides access to on-demand training.

How do I know what roles to buy for simulation?

We are here to assess your situation and get you exactly what you need without buying more than you require. The packages shown in the matrix above typically offer the best value for most users. However, roles can be purchased individually, and we can help determine if a custom package is right for you.

What kind of fluid calculations does the SIMULIA Fluid Dynamics Engineer role perform?
Fluid Dynamics Engineer, included in the Simulation Multiphysics package, solves the Navier-Stokes equations to calculate velocity fields, pressure and other fluid parameters.
