Frequently Asked Questions

What is included with Fuse Blast?

Fuse Blast comes with the following accessories:

  • Transfer container
  • Control pedals
  • ESD wrist strap
  • 7mm socket wrench
  • Blast orifice (3mm)
  • Blast orifice (4mm)
  • T-20 driver
  • Floor mat
Is Fuse Blast only for Formlabs?
No, you can use this de-powdering system for other powder-based technologies as well.
What is the smoothing option?
The smoothing option is a post-processing technique for smoothing the surface of 3D printed parts. It involves using an abrasive blasting process to remove layer lines and imperfections, resulting in a smoother finish on the part’s surface.
How does Fuse Blast benefit existing Formlabs 3D Printing users?
Users of other Formlabs 3D printing solutions can integrate the Fuse Blast Smoothing Option into their workflow by incorporating it as a post-processing step after printing. Once the desired parts are printed using Formlabs printers, they can be transferred to the Fuse Blast unit for smoothing. This process enables users to achieve a polished finish on their 3D-printed parts, enhancing their aesthetic appeal and functional performance.
Can I achieve professional-grade results with Fuse Blast without using Fuse Sift?
Yes, Fuse Blast allows you to clean parts extracted from the cake without prior de-powdering, reducing Fuse Sift time to 5-10 minutes. However, we recommend using Fuse Sift and Fuse Blast together for optimal powder management and part cleaning workflows.
Is polishing possible with Fuse Blast?
Yes, Fuse Blast can polish parts using specialty plastic media with the drop-in polishing upgrade. This feature will be available in H1 2024, allowing for a smooth, semi-gloss, and dye-ready surface finish.
How long does it take to post-process parts with Fuse Blast?
Typically, the post-processing time on the Fuse Series ecosystem ranges from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on factors like material used, part geometry and desired powder reclaim. This includes extracting parts, cleaning and optional polishing.
What is the labor requirement for operating the Fuse Blast?
Fuse Blast is an automated solution that minimizes manual labor. Users simply transfer parts from the Fuse Sift to the Fuse Blast, press the “Start” button, and let the system handle the rest. Manual cleaning modes are available for delicate or large parts.
Is the Fuse Blast ATEX certified?
No, ATEX certification is not required as the Fuse Blast is not intended for use in potentially explosive environments. However, it adheres to safety standards for dust containment and ventilation, ensuring a safe operating environment.
