Have you ever made that leap of faith forward only to find yourself remembering just how good things were before the change? I have. SOLIDWORKS surprised users with the new color scheme and to much avail have brought back color into SOLIDWORKS 2016 Service Pack 3.0.
Here is a video that takes you through how to get your classic icons colors back:
With SOLIDWORKS open go to Options
Then under System Options select Colors and then look at the Icon color drop down menu. Look for the Classic option. Once selected remember to select the Ok button to save your selection.
There is another setting where you can set the Background color which is pretty effective in reducing brightness. The new monitors are so intense there have been times when I’ve consider wearing sunglasses to reduce eye strain. SOLIDWORKS has built in an option to help relieve the stress of bright monitors. Talk a look at the options and find what works for you.
One last note is that the color of parts and assemblies remains in the new 2016 color scheme. Features will show the color but parts and assemblies icons will not. If you are interested please take a look at SPR (Software Performance Report) 946031 Ability for Windows Explorer icons to be able to be reverted back to the old color scheme.
This is an example of what the icons look like in your “FeatureManager Design Tree” commonly known as the Feature Tree.
The SPR (Software Performance Report) addresses the color in the explorer window and you can vote on this if you would like to see the colors back. Check out SOLIDWORKS Enhancement Request if you would like to see this enhancement come in a future Service Pack.
