There are numerous reasons to have more than one version of SOLIDWORKS installed and there are almost as many ways to manage those installs. This is what we here at Symmetry recommend to make sure they run as separate installations.
So if you need to have more than one version on the computer it is best if all current installations are removed and all of the installation locations are cleaned out (it is not necessary to do this, but we recommend it.) If you are going to remove all instances of SOLIDWORKS and start from scratch, after the installations are removed, look for the following folders and delete them.
- C:SOLIDWORKS Data
- C:Program FilesSOLIDWORKS Corp
- C:Program Files (x86)SOLIDWORKS Corp
When we start the install go thru the standard steps for a getting it started. Run the setup.exe and select “Individual Installation.” Then add in the serial number if it is not populated. The next page will be the desired method of install, Upgrade or New install. Select to create a New install of the version.
When the Summary page shows, we will need to modify a couple install locations.
Select the Installation Location Change link and browse from the location and add the version to the folder name, as shown below; SOLIDWORKS Corp 2015.
Go back to Summary. Now select the Toolbox/Hole Wizard Options Change link. From the browse, change this folder to add the version to the name. The name I chose for this was SOLIDWORKS Data 2015.
Go back to the Summary page and make any other changes you need and then finish the installation by selecting the Install Now button in the lower right. You can apply this to all installations if you need to have more than one install at the same time.
If you have a custom Toolbox that you use from version to version, instead of creating a new Toolbox/Hole Wizard install, copy the existing one to a new folder. Make sure to give it a unique name so you can tell the difference from the previous install. Then on the Toolbox/Hole Wizard Options select to upgrade an existing Toolbox and make sure to point to the newly copied folder. This will then use that Toolbox and upgrade the data base to that version.
